Last week, UCM lost a student, friend and brother. Terrence Barkley, 19, died last week from fatal gunshot wounds while driving to visit his family in the Swope Park area of Kansas City. Over the past week, students and faculty have paid tribute to Barkley's life.

Last week, President Obama declared in his prime-time address from the Oval Office that the American combat mission in Iraq has ended. Furthermore, regarding the war in Afghanistan, the President stated that, starting next August, the military will initiate a transition to Afghan responsibility and begin drawing down American forces as determined by conditions on the ground. Hoping to revive his domestic agenda in the wake of these military developments, Obama noted that the most urgent task [now] is to restore our economy, and put the millions of Americans who have lost their jobs back to work.

Sept. 10th marks the 6th Annual (downtown) Omaha Lit Fest at Kaneko, located at 11th and Jones Streets.

Timothy Schaffert, event coordinator for Lit Fest, spoke of why it all began.

"It started as an effort to promote contemporary authors and their works and to create a sort of informal environment for writers and their readers to meet and have discussions," Schaffert said.

Record numbers of Drury students have left university administration estatic--and scrambling to accomodate the 550 new faces on campus.

Last week, enrollment reached 1,633, surpassing the previous record of 1,615 set in 2007.

According to Dean of Admission Dawn Hiles, the high number is due in part to campus-wide recruiting efforts.
