There is always need for a helping hand somewhere. As summer is getting closer, that is exactly what Discipleship will give, a helping hand.
Discipleship will be traveling to Alaska to work at Camp Maranatha in Big Lake. They will fly out of Kansas City May 11, and land in Anchorage May 12, they will then drive to Big Lake where they will stay until May 18.
Seventeen people will be traveling to Alaska for a different adventure.
Mandi Bever, biology junior, is coordinating the mission trip.
"We are going to work on a children's camp. We will be doing all maintenance that needs to be done," said Bever. "The camp needs an inflatable dock, so we will be working on that."
Megan Martin, biology junior, said she can't wait to spend time with the team and to help the camp prepare for summer.
"I cherish the time we share together as a team. During the school year we get so busy and it's hard to find time to fellowship together," said Martin. "Mission trips are the perfect time to get to know each other better. We set apart time in the evenings to do fun team-building activities like cooking dinner for each other, playing games and worship."
Martin said she's never been to Alaska. "This trip is going to be awesome. Our mission trip coordinator, Mandi Bever, has worked hard to make our experience in Alaska very memorable," said Martin. "The memories created will be embedded into our hearts. Each of us will be blessed by serving in Alaska together."
Josh Davison, philosophy & religious studies senior, said he's excited to see Alaska. "I am excited about seeing Alaska and flying," said Davison. "They haven't told us that much yet. But I know it will be fun meeting new people, and to learn, to grow and have a new life experiences."
